Fibre Identification
- Some fibers can be difficult to identify, for example acrylic is made to look like wool.
- A visual identification is used to see physical characteristics, e.g. Is it loop pile or plush pile, rather than the makeup of the yarn.
- Yarn fiber identification should only be completed with extreme care by an experienced carpet manufacturer.
- Always consult the carpet or upholstery manufacturer instructions before applying any chemical and test first on a small piece of carpet in an inconspicuous area such as in the corner of room or under furniture. DO NOT cut the fiber from the middle of the room.
- Disengage carpet to inspect construction, type of backing or remove tufts from heating duct vents where you can also easily see the construction of the carpet.
Conventional pile height
Conventional long pile tufted carpet allowed greater airflow when vacuuming and hot water extraction cleaning.
New shorter pile height
Shorter pile, densely packed fibres stop airflow when hot water extraction is used. Leaves carpet wetter with more soilage and detergent left behind.
