Surface Protection
For the ultimate protection and to maintain a clean, bright and a shiny appearance, it is recommended to apply a sealer and finisher to the floor. This surface is much easier to clean and repair (lowering maintenance costs) and is easily re-coated when required. Research Products has a range of sealers for various floor types.
Impregnating Sealers
Either solvent or water based, these products give subsurface protection to stone, concrete and tiled surfaces. They provide an invisible layer and may be suitable for indoor or outdoor use, even being used to protect ornaments, sculptures and facades.
Sealer Finishes
These are easy to use systems for a range of floor surfaces and maintenance procedures. You can choose the perfect finish for vinyl, rubber, marble, terrazzo, concrete and other stone surfaces. Each offers different characteristics to respond best to different floors, buffing speeds and traffic levels. Anti-static and satin finish products are also available.
Timber Floor Finishes
A combination of oils, waxes or polyurethane fortified finishes to provide the perfect finish to your timber floor or gymnasium.
IMPORTANT: New floor should NOT be cleaned prior to it being fully cured. In certain conditions a light oily film may be apparent on the floors after curing (approximately 48 hours), it is important to remove this film by stripping the floor. Refer to product specification sheet.
For the best results, apply sealer with an Oates polyester cotton mop in a figure 8 pattern. First coat is laid wall to wall. Interlink all other coats, north/south one, east/west the next.
For larger areas, use a polish spreading fringe. Ensure that a wet edge is kept so you don't apply to areas that are drying out.
The mop used in this procedure should be clean and only used for floor finishing.
Clean equipment will give a clean job.
Allow as long as possible after sealing, at least 60 minutes before floor may be walked on.
If needed, apply more coats, per instructions on finish container except stay 6" to 12" away from the baseboards. This area gets little or no wear since people cannot walk that close to the baseboard. Multiple coats of finish at the baseboards build up too much.
Allow second coat to dry completely.
If buffing is desired between coats to level the finish and to increase the gloss, be sure that the floor finish used is buffable and use the correct Oates® Tan General Buff Pad on the floor machine.
Note: When buffing between applications of coats of finish, be sure to mop the floor with a dry dust mop before applying the next coat.
IMPORTANT: Too much finish on floor will require stripping.
